Castle in the Clouds is a mountaintop estate built in the early 1900s by millionaire shoe manufacturer Thomas Plant. Designed by prominent Boston architect J. Williams Beal, the castle was Plant’s gift to his second wife, Olive. It is a cliche to say fairy tale, but I can’t deny the castle was an enchanting place to visit. The sweeping views of lakes and mountains created the feeling of being above the clouds.
